The Reciter: Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. Al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Musa ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Abu 'Uwanah narrated to us from Sa'id ibn Masruq from 'Abayah ibn Rifa'ah ibn Rafi' from his grandfather Rafi' ibn Khadij, who said:
We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at Dhu al-Hulayfah, and the people were afflicted with hunger, so we obtained camels and sheep. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at the rear of the people, so they hastened and set up the pots. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then came to them and ordered the pots to be overturned. Then he divided them, equating ten sheep with one camel. One camel strayed from them, and there were a few horses among the people. They searched for it but it eluded them, so a man aimed an arrow at it, but Allah restrained him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, these animals have wild counterparts just as wild animals have wild counterparts. So whatever strays from you, do with it thus." He said: And my grandfather said: We hope or fear that we will encounter the enemy tomorrow, and we have no knives with us. Should we slaughter with reeds? He said: "Whatever causes the blood to flow and the name of Allah is mentioned over it, eat it. It is not the tusk or the claw. And I will inform you about it: as for the tusk, it is bone; and as for the claw, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."
كنا مع النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بذي الحليفة فأصاب الناس جوع فأصبنا إبلًا وغنمًا وكان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في أخريات الناس فعجلوا فنصبوا القدور فدفع إليهم النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فأمر بالقدور فأكفئت ثم قسم فعدل عشرةً من الغنم ببعير فند منها بعير وكان في القوم خيل يسيرة فطلبوه فأعياهم فأهوى إليه رجل بسهم فحبسه الله فقال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم : إن لهذه البهائم أوابد كأوابد الوحش فما ند عليكم فاصنعوا به هكذا قال وقال جدي إنا لنرجو أو نخاف أن نلقى العدو غدًا وليس معنا مدًى أفنذبح بالقصب فقال : ما أنهر الدم وذكر اسم الله عليه فكل ليس السن والظفر وسأخبركم عنه أما السن فعظم وأما الظفر فمدى الحبشة
