The questioner : May the Shaykh be respected, is it established from Imam Ahmad that he said: "If you see a man making du'a for the ruler"?
The Shaykh : If you see.
The questioner :"If you see a man making du'a for the ruler, know that he is a follower of the Sunnah"?
The Shaykh : What is it?
The questioner :"That he is a follower of the Sunnah".
The Shaykh : Yes, by Allah, I do not know, but if it is not established from him with a chain of narration, it is his madhhab in reality, because it has been narrated from him and from al-Fudayl ibn 'Iyad (may Allah have mercy on them both) that he said: "If I knew that I had a supplication that would be answered, I would direct it to the ruler". So it is not far-fetched that this is the case, because the one who does not make du'a for the ruler is involved in one of the ugly innovations, which is the Khawarij's rebellion against the imams. If you were sincere to Allah, His Book, His Messenger, the imams of the Muslims, and the common people, you would make du'a for the ruler—may Allah have mercy on you—because if the ruler is righteous, the people are righteous. But some people, when they see a deviation in their ruler and are told, "Make du'a to Allah to guide him," say, "No, no, Allah will not guide him; I only make du'a for Allah to destroy him." Well, if Allah will not guide him, did Allah not guide some of the imams of disbelief? He guided them. Then, if Allah destroys him as you wish now, who takes over after him? Who is the alternative? Look at the Arab revolutions that arose against the revolutions; ask the people of the countries which was better, when the countries were monarchies or when they were revolutionary? Yes, they will say with one voice, at one moment, standing, sitting, and on their sides, that it was better a thousand times over when it was a monarchy. And this is clear. Yes, I have taken the question. Greed for what comes after.
