Continuation of the benefits of the hadith: (I turned my face toward the One who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward Him, and I am not among those who associate partners with Allah. Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. He has no partner. And thus I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.)

The Shaykh : In this hadith, there are many benefits, among them is establishing sincerity, and that it is incumbent upon a person to declare it, due to his saying
I have turned my face
. Among them is that the Creator of the heavens and the earth is Allah; no one other than Him created them, and this is known by necessity in the heavenly religions.
Among them is the perfection of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sincerity in his saying
as a monotheist, and I am not of the polytheists
Sunan Ibn Majah 3121Hasan (Darussalam)
.
Among them is that it is incumbent upon a person to emphasize sincerity in several forms of the hadith’s phrasing, due to his saying
Verily, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of all that exists. He has no partner. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims.
Sunan Ibn Majah 3121Hasan (Darussalam)
.
Among the benefits of this hadith is also praising Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in his saying
O Allah, You are the King, there is none worthy of worship except You. You are My Lord, and I am Your slave
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3421Sahih (Darussalam)
. Among them is the virtue of acknowledging sin, and this is not considered open sinning, because this acknowledgment is between you and Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Among them is that it is possible for sin to befall the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), due to his saying
I have wronged myself and I acknowledge my sin
Sunan an-Nasa'i 897Sahih (Darussalam)
. It is not possible for anyone to say that the meaning is “I acknowledged the sin of my Ummah,” because he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not know all the sins of his Ummah. The correct view is that he commits sins but is purified from lying, betrayal, major sins, and what strips away dignity, and what is not befitting the station of prophethood. Sins may occur from him, but he does not persist in them; he must be alerted to them so that he repents from them. This is the difference between the prophets and their nations.
Among the benefits of this hadith is praising Allah (Mighty and Majestic) by stating that He does not forgive sins except He, and this necessitates that one not seek forgiveness except from
The student: Allah.

The Shaykh : except from Allah. Among the benefits of the hadith is the importance of good character, and that it is incumbent upon a person to adopt the best of characters and ask Allah to help him with that, due to his saying
Guide me to the best of manners for none can guide to the best of them but You. Protect me from bad manners for none can protect against them but You.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 897Sahih (Darussalam)
. Among them is the permissibility of the talbiyah outside of the state of ihram, due to his saying
Here I am, at Your service, and I am obedient to You لبيك وسعديك
. So the talbiyah is prescribed even outside of ihram, but for a reason. Among them is turning toward obedience, saying
Here I am, at Your service, and I am obedient to You لبيك وسعديك
as it came in the text. Among them is when you see something from this world that delights you; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to say when he saw something from this world that delighted him,
Here I am, for life is the life of the Hereafter
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:3196
. So in his saying “Labbaik” (Here I am), he means “I have responded to you,” turning away from this world. Then he settles his soul and consoles it by saying
The real life is that of the Here-after
Sahih al-Bukhari 2834
. Is it the life of this world? It is not a life, and the life of this world is not a life
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."
[Al-Fajr 89:24]
.
Among the benefits of this hadith is that all good is in the hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and that good is attributed to Him, because He (Exalted and Majestic is He) is all good. As for evil, it is not attributed to Him, due to his saying
And evil is not with You.
.
Among the benefits of this hadith is a person’s acknowledgment of his need and his dependence on his Lord, due to his saying
I am with You and for You أنا بك وإليك
.
Among its benefits is that it is incumbent upon a person to repeat supplication and vary his methods, due to his saying
I seek Your forgiveness and I repent to You
after his saying
Forgive me all my sins
Sunan an-Nasa'i 897Sahih (Darussalam)
.

The Shaykh : …, In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. And may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and all his Companions.
and when he would bow, he would say: O Allah, it is for Thee that I bowed. I affirm my faith in Thee and I submit to Thee, and submit humbly before Thee my hearing, my eyesight, my marrow, my bone, my sinew
Sahih Muslim 771a
. This is also from what a person praises his Lord with and humbles himself before Him with the most complete humility, where he says
Allahumma laka rak'atu wa bika amantu wa laka aslamtu
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1051Sahih (Darussalam)
. I believed with my heart and submitted with my limbs.
and submit humbly before Thee my hearing, my eyesight, my marrow, my bone, my sinew
Sahih Muslim 771a
. This is also from the category of emphasis in supplication and detailing it; otherwise, if he had said “I humbled myself to You,” that would have been sufficient. And when he raises [his hands], he says
O Allah! our Lord, unto Thee be praise that would fill the heavens
Sahih Muslim 476b
. This is also when he raises [his hands], he says
O Allah! our Lord, unto Thee be praise
Sahih Muslim 476b
. When he raises [his hands], and as for when he raises [his hands], he says
Allah hears whoever praises him
Muwatta Malik 3:17
as is well known in the hadiths. And his saying
O Allah! our Lord, unto Thee be praise
Sahih Muslim 476b
is one of the four descriptions in which this dhikr is said. The second description is
Allahumma Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (O Allah, our Lord and to You be the praise)
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1060Sahih (Darussalam)
, the third description is
Our Lord, to You is the praise
, and the fourth is
Our Lord, to You belongs all praise
. These are from the varied acts of worship that a person should say this once and that once. We have previously explained
Filling the heavens and the earth
to its end. So among the benefits of this hadith is that a person should say when he raises [his hands]
O Allah! our Lord, unto Thee be praise
Sahih Muslim 476b
. Is this obligatory or a recommended practice? The correct view is that it is obligatory, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
and when he says: 'Sami' Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)' then say: 'Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Our Lord, and to You be the praise).'
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1061Sahih (Darussalam)
. Some scholars held that everything except the takbir of ihram, the recitation of al-Fatihah, and the first and second tashahhud is a recommended practice in terms of words. So the takbirs are a recommended practice in their view, the tasbih is a recommended practice, and saying
Allah hears whoever praises him
Muwatta Malik 3:17
is a recommended practice, and saying
Our Lord, to You is the praise
is a recommended practice. But the correct view is that they are all obligatory, except what evidence indicates is a recommended practice, such as reciting what is in addition to al-Fatihah. He said
And when he prostrated
. Among its benefits is that when he prostrates, he says
Allahumma laka sajadtu, wa bika amantu, wa laka aslamtu
Sunan Ibn Majah 1054Sahih (Darussalam)
. This is like his saying in the bowing, but here he replaced the bowing with prostration because he is prostrating. Record it, Ya Waleed.
to the One Who created it, and made its hearing and vision
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 580Da'if (Darussalam)
to its end also contains evidence that it is recommended to say this dhikr when he prostrates. But does he say this only in the night prayer or not? The disagreement has been mentioned previously: is it general or in the night prayer? And we said the most apparent is that it is in the night prayer, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to lengthen it and increase supplication in it. And we said that this is the apparent practice of Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him), where he mentioned this hadith in the night prayer.
Among the benefits of this hadith is praising Allah the Exalted by stating that He is the best of creators. And from it, meaning from its benefits, is also affirming creation for other than Allah. That is, creation may be attributed to other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic), but the creation attributed to other than Allah is not the creation that is specific to Allah. Because the creation that is specific to Allah is bringing into existence from nothing, and this is not possible for anyone except Allah. As for the creation that is for other than Allah, it is changing and transforming. For example, a person can transform clay into the shape of a bird, as
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : Isa did, and he can transform wood into doors and iron into vessels, and the like. This is called creation, but it is not the creation that is specific to Allah, because the creation that is specific to Allah is bringing into existence. Are you in the row behind or in front? Move forward to fill the gap.
Among the benefits of this hadith is supplication between the tashahhud and the taslim … he says
O Allah, forgive me my former
Sunan Abi Dawud 1509Sahih (Al-Albani)
to its end. In it is also expansion and detailing in supplication. In it is also that a person, rather, that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) knows the person better than he knows himself, due to his saying
wa ma anta a-'lamu bihi minni
Sahih al-Bukhari 6399
. Because a person may do something while heedless or not heedless, but he forgets. As for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), He knows you better than you know yourself, as in the hadith.
Among the benefits of this hadith is that Allah the Exalted is the One who brings forward and the One who delays, and this is general in everything. The One who brings forward and delays in worship. Some people Allah delays, and some He brings forward. And from the delaying is the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding those who delay from the front rows
If people continue to lag behind
Sunan Ibn Majah 978Sahih (Darussalam)
.
The student: He delays them …

The Shaykh :
Allah delays them يؤخّرهم الله
. And from bringing forward and delaying is bringing forward the reward and delaying it. And from bringing forward and delaying is bringing forward the dhikr and delaying it. The important thing is that this description is general
You are the Advancer, the Delayer, there is no god but You.
Sunan Abi Dawud 1509Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And here ends the discussion of the hadith. In it are more benefits, but what we have mentioned is sufficient.
