The reciter: And Harimah ibn Yahya narrated to me, informing us that Ibn Wahb informed us, and Yunus informed me. And 'Abd ibn Hamid narrated to us, informing us that 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, and Ma'mar and Ibn Jurayy, all of them from al-Zuhri, with this chain of narration, with the meaning of their hadith. And in the hadith of Yunus, it was added: .
The Shaykh : This hadith, or this chapter, is connected to the chapter before it. That is because when lineages are confused, one refers to the statement of the genealogist, on the condition that he is just and experienced in accuracy. The genealogist is the one who identifies lineages by resemblance. They were known in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance in certain tribes, among them Banu Madlij, for they were genealogists. They filled the gaps; they filled them, for they were genealogists. Asama ibn Zayd and his father Zayd differed in color. Asama, whose name contains the letter sin, was black; Asama was black. As for Zayd, he was white. The polytheists would object, meaning they would deny that Asama was the son of Zayd, and the basis of the objection was the difference in color. But there is nothing strange in that, because Asama's mother was a black Abyssinian, so her blood drew his features. Even if they were both white, color and resemblance are not decisive, for perhaps a bloodline has drawn him, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. But the polytheists wanted to take everything from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is well known the connection of Zayd ibn Harithah and his son Asama to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Is the connection that of a brother?
The student: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) had adopted him.
The Shaykh : Yes, he adopted Zayd, and he was also his freed slave, because Zayd was a slave of Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), so she gifted him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he became his slave, so he freed him. He loved him; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) loved him and loved his son Asama. The polytheists wanted to criticize the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in every way. So Majjiz passed by them while they were lying down, having covered their heads, and only their feet were visible. He said, "These feet are some of them from others." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was pleased by this, not because he was initially in doubt, but because if a genealogist, known in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, testifies that the testimony of genealogists is accepted, then that is an increase in confidence, so he was pleased by it.
And Majjiz was a genealogist
