The questioner : We have previously answered a question from this message, and the remaining questions received from the listener A.K.M. from the land of Bani Amr, the village of Bran, state that there is a teacher who says that listening to the Noble Qur'an from the radio is forbidden. I said, Allah the Exalted said:
So when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy. وإذا قرئ القرأن فاستمعوا له وأنصتوا لعلكم ترحمون
[Al-A'raf 7:204]
He said, "Since you know, read from the mushaf." Who is right? May Allah guide you?

The Shaykh : Listening to recorded recitation is undoubtedly listening to a narrated voice.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And it is fixed on this tape, which is a matter that does not contradict the noble verse
when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention إذا قرئ القرأن فاستمعوا له وأنصتوا
[Al-A'raf 7:204]
So there is nothing wrong with listening to it; rather, it may be recommended if a person does not know how to recite it himself and likes to listen to the Qur'an from this recording.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So it becomes something he is commanded to do. The correct view is with you, that there is nothing wrong with listening to the recitation from the recorder.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because these are among the means by which Allah has bestowed a favor upon us, where we preserve the Book of Allah by writing it in letters and recording it in audio.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But let it be known that what is said in a recording is not like what a person says himself, especially if the act of worship is intended by the doer. I say this so that no one thinks that if we put a recorder on a loudspeaker on the minaret at the time of the adhan and heard the adhan from this recorder, that this would suffice in place of the adhan from a human being himself.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because the adhan is a worship that the doer must perform himself, unlike a recorded thing, which is a narration of the voice of the doer or the reciter or the recorder, so it is not his action. Therefore, we may turn on the recorder and it narrates to us the voice of a dead person. If it is not his action and the adhan is prescribed from the doer, then the adhan via a loudspeaker does not suffice in place of the adhan of a human being himself.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed.
