The questioner : Also, she has a fifth question, asking: What is the ruling on one who prayed 'Isha' in three rak'ahs, then said the taslim, then spoke a little or walked a little, then remembered that he had prayed three rak'ahs? Does he repeat the prayer, or does he go back and continue the prayer, then prostrate for forgetfulness?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for him not to repeat the prayer from the beginning; rather, it is obligatory that he complete the prayer, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did in the hadith narrated by 'Imran ibn Husayn, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed 'Asr in three rak'ahs, then stood up and went to his house. A man came out and said, "O Messenger of Allah," and informed him. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned and prayed what remained. If this happens, it is obligatory for a person to complete his prayer, then say the taslim, then prostrate two prostrations for forgetfulness, then say the taslim.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Just as the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did.

The questioner : O Allah, send blessings and peace upon him.

The Shaykh : And he said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayers صلوا كما رأيتموني أصلي
