The reciter: And Ishaq ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, and Abdullah ibn al-Harith al-Makhzumi informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 53
The Shaykh: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
As you have seen, in these hadiths the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described characteristics that belong to specific people, either by their actions or by their locations. Such descriptions, which are restricted by actions or locations, do not mean that they apply to every individual; rather, the intent is the group as a whole. There may be among the owners of sheep one who is rough and has a hard heart, and there may be among the owners of camels one who has a soft heart. There may be among the people of Yemen one who is not a believer at all, and there may be among the people of the East one who is also a believer. Such statements are made in a general sense and do not mean that they are specific to every individual or fixed for every individual. This is a matter that becomes apparent through observation. Therefore, preferring one group over another does not mean preferring every individual in that group over every individual in another. And in his saying (peace and blessings be upon him)Sahih Muslim 53, this supports the interpretation of those who interpreted "Yemen" as the Hijaz in general, which includes Madinah, Makkah, and the people of Yemen (Sana'a and Aden), and others. It is broader than what is understood by many people regarding Yemen.
The callousness of heart and sternness is in the East and faith is among the people of the Hijaz.
