Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: "And he also distinguished between the meaning of the absolute name when it is said: disbeliever or believer. And the absolute meaning of the name in all its occurrences, as in His saying:
Do not return to unbelief after me by striking the necks of one another. لا ترجعوا بعدي كفاراً، يضرب بعضكم رقاب بعض
Sahih Muslim 65
So His saying:
by striking the necks of one another يضربُ بعضكم رقاب بعض
Sahih Muslim 65
is an explanation of 'disbelievers' in this context"
.

The Shaykh : Exegesis.
The reader: An explanation of 'disbelievers' in this context.

The Shaykh : I do not have 'an explanation of disbelievers'.
The reader: The strange thing is that in my copy it says 'an explanation of disbelievers' and he indicated in the margin saying: in copy D 'the disbelievers', so it is the same thing, meaning he did not bring anything new.

The Shaykh : How?
The reader: I say that in the text it mentions 'an explanation of the disbelievers' and in the margin it says 'in copy D the disbelievers', and there is no difference between what is in the margin and what is in the main text.

The Shaykh : Except according to your statement about the main text.
The reader: The main text says 'an explanation of the disbelievers'.

The Shaykh : And the margin.
The reader: 'The disbelievers'.

The Shaykh : With the definite article.
The reader: Both have the definite article.

The Shaykh : Does it have the definite article in both?
The reader: Both.
The student: Perhaps he intends ... .

The Shaykh : The one I have says 'an explanation of disbelievers' and this is the correct one because he wants to quote the word exactly as it is, yes.
The student: With the alif.

The Shaykh : An explanation of the disbelievers.
The student: An explanation for the disbelievers.

The Shaykh : For the disbelievers does not contradict, the meaning is correct, but I have a second copy that says 'an explanation of disbelievers'.
The student: The time is up, Shaykh, it is time for the question.

The Shaykh : There is no question.
The reader: In the book *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*: "And he also distinguished between the meaning"

The Shaykh : And he distinguished
The reader: "And he also distinguished between the meaning of the absolute name when it is said: disbeliever or believer. And the absolute meaning of the name in all its occurrences, as in His saying:
Do not return to unbelief after me by striking the necks of one another. لا ترجعوا بعدي كفارا ، يضرب بعضكم رقاب بعض
Sahih Muslim 65
So His saying:
by striking the necks of one another يضرب بعضكم رقاب بعض
Sahih Muslim 65
is an explanation of 'the disbelievers' in this context, and these are called disbelievers with a qualified designation, and they do not fall under the absolute name when it is said"
.

The Shaykh : The meaning of a qualified designation is according to the qualification by the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), meaning 'disbelievers' in the context of 'some of you will strike the necks of others', because no one strikes the neck of a believer except a disbeliever, so they are not given the absolute name of disbelief, nor is the absolute name taken from them, just as faith, which is absolute faith, is not denied to them, nor are they given the absolute name of faith. Yes.
The reader: "And they do not fall under the absolute name when it is said: disbeliever and believer. Just as He, the Exalted, said:
from a fluid, ejected, من ماءٍ دافقٍ
[At-Tariq 86:6]
He named semen water with a qualified designation, and it did not fall under the absolute name where He said:
and find no water, then seek clean earth فلم تجدوا ماءً فتيمموا
[An-Nisa 4:43]
And from this category is what they both narrated in *al-Sahihayn* from 'Amr ibn Dinar"
.

The Shaykh : This example is actually a far-fetched hypothesis, yes, no one knows that 'you will not find water' means a container of semen, but this is on the assumption. However, it can be illustrated with a closer example by saying: I swear by Allah I will not touch water, then he touched semen. Does he break his oath?
The student: He does not break his oath.

The Shaykh : Why? Because this, although it is called water, is qualified water
a fluid, ejected, (7) Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. ماء دافق يخرج من بين الصلب والترائب
[At-Tariq 86:6-7]
So if it were assumed that someone said, 'I swear by Allah I will not touch water,' and then he touched semen, he would not break his oath, because this is not absolute water, but it is water in the absolute sense. Yes.
