Benefits of the hadith (that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to, when he went out . . . ).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It is derived from this hadith: that when a person goes out from the place of relief or from the latrine, he should say:
Forgiveness is Yours غفرانك
following the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
If someone were to ask: What is the forgiveness that a person constantly seeks?
We say: Forgiveness is covering the sin and passing over it. We described it with these two descriptions, covering and passing over, because the derivation indicates this. It is derived from the *mighfar* (helmet) that covers the head in battle, and this *mighfar* provides two benefits to the head:
The first benefit is covering.
The second benefit is protection. For this reason, it is not correct to say: "Forgiveness is covering the sin," but rather one must say: "It is covering the sin and passing over it."
This meaning is indicated by the fact that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) on the Day of Resurrection will be alone with His believing servant, will question him about his sins, and will say:
I have covered it for you in this world, and I forgive it for you today. قد سترتها عليك في الدنيا وأنا أغفرها لك اليوم
Sahih Ibn Hibban 64:265
. Thus, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) distinguished between covering and forgiveness, which indicates that forgiveness is not merely covering, but rather something in addition to it.
