And we say to him as well: If two jobs were offered to you, one with a higher salary, you would work in that one rather than the one with the lower salary.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And we say to him as well: If two jobs were offered to you, one with a higher salary, you would work in that one rather than the one with the lower salary. So how do you choose for yourself in the work of the Hereafter what is lower, and then you argue with divine decree?"
We address even the lazy believer with this; that is, we do not address only the disbeliever, but we also address the lazy believer. If two jobs were offered to you, one with a salary of ten thousand and the other with five thousand, which would you choose? Ten thousand, without any doubt. For this reason, even the one who chooses five thousand, or who only gets five thousand, whenever the time for promotion comes, what does he do? He demands it; he works hard to demand it.
The important point is that I say this based on reality, not based on agreement. I do not think that an employee should ask for a promotion, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Take out of this wealth which comes to you without your being avaricious and without begging, but in other circumstance's do not let your heart hanker after it. ما جاءك من هذا المال وأنت غير مشرف ولا سائل فخذه، وما لا فلا تتبعه نفسك
Sahih Muslim 1045a
Do not ask for a promotion; if they promote you, that is what is required, otherwise remain silent. Because money is not actually the state's money; whose money is it? It is the money of the Muslims in general. So if you wrong someone by a dirham, do not think that you have wronged the state or the Council of Ministers or something similar. No, you have wronged the poorest old woman in her hut, because the money is the money of the Muslims in general. All right. Let us not digress too much. We say to this lazy man: If two jobs were offered to you, one with a higher salary, you would take the higher one. So how do you choose the best in matters of this world and not choose the best in matters of the Hereafter? All right. This is also clear evidence. The strange thing is that you find these people who argue with divine decree to be the most competitive in matters of this world, and they would never, on any day, argue with divine decree. Are the open sinners and transgressors not demanding promotions and choosing jobs with high salaries? Yes, there is no doubt about this. So they argue with divine decree in one thing and do not argue with it in another. All right.
