Explanation of the Book of Prayer-13

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :“And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Let Allah destroy the Jews for they have taken the graves of their apostles as places of worship.
Sahih Muslim 530a
. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and Muslim added:
and the Christians والنصارى
”
.
And in a narration in a different hadith:
May Allah curse the Jews and Christians
Sunan an-Nasa'i 703Sahih (Darussalam)
.
“May Allah fight” means “May Allah destroy.” This meaning is definitive, because whoever fights Allah is destroyed in any case. But because this stubborn one who opposes the Shari'ah of Allah is contending with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), the invocation against him was named destruction. What is it? Fighting, like the fighting of those who contend. The Jews are those who claim to be the followers of Musa. They were named so either because their ancestor was named Yehuda, but it was Arabized and became Yahud, or because it is from the word had, yahud, meaning “returned,” according to their saying:
indeed, we have turned back to You
[Al-A'raf 7:156]
And His saying, the Exalted:
The prophets who submitted [to Allah] judged by it for the Jews
[Al-Ma'idah 5:44]
It is also possible that this refers to both matters: that they had, meaning they returned to Allah and repented from worshipping the calf, and that their ancestor was named with this name.
Then he said:
take the graves of their prophets as Masjids
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2046Sahih (Darussalam)
This is a summary of the reasoning for the ruling that came before it. It is as if it was said: Why? He said: They took the graves of their prophets as mosques. That is, they began to pray at the graves, whether a building was constructed over them or not. Because if this place is taken as a place of prayer, it has been taken as a mosque without doubt, whether a building was constructed over it or not. And Muslim added:
and the Christians والنّصارى
The Christians are the followers of 'Isa. They were named Christians either because of their saying:
We are supporters for Allah
[Ali 'Imran 3:52]
Or because of their connection to their land, al-Nasirah, which is well known. It is possible to say both aspects apply.
