Is zakah due on profits along with the principal?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother / E. M. J. from Nouakchott in Mauritania.
He says in his question: In the month of Ramadan of the year 1415 AH, I had a sum of forty thousand ouguiya, and I paid its zakah at the proper time. In the month of Ramadan of the year 1416 AH, the amount increased by twenty thousand ouguiya; that is, it became sixty thousand ouguiya. This twenty thousand came to me two months before Ramadan 1416 AH. How do I pay zakah on these previous and subsequent amounts? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.

A: If the last twenty thousand is from the profits of the first forty thousand, then it is zakat-able along with its principal when its lunar year is completed; because the profit follows the principal, and its lunar year is the lunar year of the principal. However, if the twenty thousand was obtained from other than profits; such as the price of a sale that was not for resale, or a gift from some of your brothers, then its zakah is due when its own lunar year is completed, and it does not follow the lunar year of the previous forty thousand, as the scholars have clarified. And success is from Allah.
