Advice for Installment Merchants and Consumers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Do you have any advice for our brother merchants or consumers?
Answer: My advice to my brother merchants and consumers is to fear Allah in secret and in public, to watch Him in all their transactions, to seek truthfulness and honesty in their buying and selling, and to avoid lying and betrayal, as well as all transactions and contracts that contradict the pure Shari'ah.
I advise the merchants to fear Allah regarding the people they deal with who need this deferred sale, by being gentle with them in their dealings with them, whether by not raising the price of the goods to an exhausting degree, or by being harsh and severe when collecting payment; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged leniency in selling, buying, and collecting debts, and he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 2392, and he also said (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih al-Bukhari 2079. It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
I also advise the consumers to fear Allah regarding themselves and those under their guardianship; by not rushing into buying what they do not need, so that their debts accumulate, making it difficult for them to fulfill what they committed to, thereby causing hardship for themselves and those under their care; whereas they intended to expand and benefit from these available facilities, without considering the consequences.
What is required is moderation in all matters. Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said, encouraging moderation in spending: [Al-Isra: 29].
And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said, in the context of praising His believing servants: [Al-Furqan: 67].
This is it, and we ask Allah for guidance and success for everyone, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

the best amongst the people is he who repays his debts in the most handsome manner
خيار الناس أحسنهم قضاءThe seller and the buyer have the right to keep or return goods as long as they have not parted or till they part; and if both the parties spoke the truth and described the defects and qualities (of the goods), then they would be blessed in their transaction, and if they told lies or hid something, then the blessings of their transaction would be lost.
البيعان بالخيار حتى يتفرقا، فإن صدقا وبينا بورك لهما في بيعهما، وإن كتما وكذبا محقت بركة بيعهماI also advise the consumers to fear Allah regarding themselves and those under their guardianship; by not rushing into buying what they do not need, so that their debts accumulate, making it difficult for them to fulfill what they committed to, thereby causing hardship for themselves and those under their care; whereas they intended to expand and benefit from these available facilities, without considering the consequences.

And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.
And He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said, in the context of praising His believing servants:
And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate
وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَامًاThis is it, and we ask Allah for guidance and success for everyone, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions, and peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
