Question:
When he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh has been embraced by the graveإن سعد بن معاذ قد ضمه القبر
, and his family was asked about it, and whether it had reached them that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said anything about it, they said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He used to shorten his ablution in some instances from urinationكان يقصّر في بعض الطهور من البول
. Is this authentic?

Answer:
If anyone had been safe from the embrace of the grave, Sa'd would have been safeلو سَلِمَ أحد من ضَمّة القبر لسَلِم سعد
It is the embrace of the Beloved for His Beloved, and it is an embrace that does not harm.
Q: Did he (peace and blessings be upon him) shorten his ablution in some instances?
The Shaykh: Allah knows best. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Beware of (smearing yourselves with) urine, because it is the main cause of punishment in the graveاستنزهوا من البول فإن عامة القبر منه

Al-Bayhaqi mentioned, saying: Abu 'Abdullah al-Hafizh narrated to us, saying: Abu al-'Abbas narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, saying: Yunus narrated from Ibn Ishaq, saying: Umayyah ibn 'Abdullah narrated to me that he asked some of Sa'd's family: What has reached you of the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this? They said: It was mentioned to us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about it and said:
He used to shorten his ablution in some instances from urinationكان يقصّر في بعض الطهور من البول
.
The Shaykh: It is not relied upon; because some of Sa'd's family are unknown, this is not to be relied upon. Yes.
