The Shaykh : This tree is among the good deeds of the Commander of the Faithful, 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that he cut it down, because he saw people frequenting it. This is part of his merit for this Ummah, because he cut off the root of shirk (associating partners with Allah). Had it remained until now, it would have been, or was on the verge of being, worshipped alongside Allah. But Allah empowered 'Umar ibn al-Khattab to cut it down completely and hide its location. Therefore, no one knows today where the location of this tree is.
We were one thousand and four hundred on the day of al-Hudaybiyyah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "You are today the best of the people on earth." And Jabir said: "If I could see, I would show you the location of the tree."
