Clarification that the stronger position is the equality of the slave woman and the free woman in the matter of looking, where both are required to cover what incites fitnah (trial, discord or temptation).

The Shaykh : However, the Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him), in the chapter on looking, opposed this issue, just as Ibn Hazm opposed this issue in the chapter on looking and in the chapter on prayer. He stated that the slave woman is like the free woman; their nature is one and their creation is one. Slavery is an incidental attribute external to their reality or essence. And we have evidence indicating the distinction regarding the eye and the head. As for your making a distinction without evidence, when the nature is one and everything is one, yes, this is not possible.
In the chapter on looking, the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The slave women in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), even though they did not veil as the free women veiled, because the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) with them is less, they resemble the older women who do not expect marriage." As for the older women who do not expect marriage, Allah said of them:
there is no blame upon them for putting aside their outer garments [but] not displaying adornment ليس عليهن جناح أن يضعن ثيابهن غير متبرّجات بزينة
[An-Nur 24:60]
But he says, as for the Turkish slave women who are beautiful-faced, it is never possible for them to be like the slave women in the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). She must cover her entire body from looking in the chapter on looking. He explained this with a genuine explanation... He said, "Because the purpose of the obligation of hijab, or the purpose of hijab, is to cover what is feared to cause fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), unlike prayer. For this reason, a person must cover up in prayer even if no one is around him, even if he is alone in a place where no one sees him except Allah; he must cover up. But in the chapter on looking, it is only required where people look. He said, 'So the 'illah (operative cause of a ruling) in this is not the 'illah in that.' What is the 'illah in looking? The fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). And there is no difference in this between free women and slave women. And what he said is correct without doubt, yes, and it is what must be adhered to, yes. Now, as for this slave woman."
