Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the meaning of the statement of Allah the Exalted: [Surat al-Baqarah: 189]?
Answer:
They are asking about the wisdom behind them. People ask about the wisdom: why were the new moons created?
So He (Exalted and Majestic is He) informed them that they are fixed times for people and for Hajj. They are fixed times by which people know the years and the months and Hajj. This is part of the wisdom in their creation. When the new moon appears, people know when the month has entered and when it has ended. When twelve months have passed, the year has passed, and so on. People also know by this their Hajj, their fasting, the times of their debts, the number of their wives, and other matters of their benefit.
