The Evidence for Killing the Apostate from Islam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I heard on one of the radio programs, in an interview with one of the individuals, that there is no evidence in the Noble Qur'an, a Noble Hadith, or a religious fatwa permitting the killing of the apostate from Islam. I ask you to inform me of the truth of this.

A: The Noble Qur'an and the Pure Sunnah have indicated the killing of the apostate if he does not repent, in the saying of the Exalted in Surat al-Tawbah:
But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
[al-Tawbah: 5]. This Noble verse indicates that one who does not repent is not to be left alone.
In Sahih al-Bukhari, from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said:
Whoever changes his religion, execute him.من بدل دينه فاقتلوه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2535Sahih (Darussalam)
And in the two Sahihs, from Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) , that he said to an apostate he saw at Abu Musa al-Ash'ari in Yemen:
I will not descendلا أنزل
— meaning from his mount —
until he is killed; this is the decree of Allah and His Messengerحتى يقتل قضاء الله ورسوله
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4066Sahih (Darussalam)
The evidence in this matter is abundant, and the scholars have clarified it in the chapter on the ruling of the apostate in all four schools of jurisprudence. So whoever wishes to know it, let him refer to the aforementioned chapter. Whoever denies this is ignorant or misguided, and it is not permissible to pay attention to his saying. Rather, he must be advised and taught, perhaps he will find guidance. And success is from Allah.
