The Ruling on Voluntary Prayer During the Prohibited Times

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on praying before the midday prayer by a quarter of an hour or ten minutes, given that I heard from one of the sisters that this is one of the times when prayer is prohibited? We ask for clarification.

A: It is not permissible for a Muslim to pray before the midday prayer during the time when the sun is standing still, because it is one of the prohibited times. It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
There are three times when prayer is not performed and the dead are not buried: after the dawn prayer until the sun rises, when the sun is standing still until it passes its zenith, and when the sun inclines toward sunset until it sets.ثلاث ساعات لا يصلى فيهن ولا يقبر فيهن موتى: بعد صلاة الصبح حتى تطلع الشمس، وحين تقف الشمس حتى تزول، وحين تضيف الشمس للغروب حتى تغرب
.
The point is that one does not pray just before the midday prayer. This time is not long; rather, it is a short time. When the sun is in the middle of the sky, it is called "the standing of the sun" (the time of standing). It is not permissible to worship with prayer during that time until the sun passes its zenith, meaning until the call to prayer for the midday prayer is made. Once the sun has passed its zenith, a person may pray as much as he wishes. However, before the zenith, it is obligatory to refrain from voluntary prayer. The time is not long; it is approximately a quarter of an hour or a third of an hour. If a person exercises caution and refrains from praying until about half an hour before the zenith, that is good. Once the sun passes its zenith, the prohibited time ends until the time for the afternoon prayer.
