Shuqara: The brother asked you just now for your answer to this, regarding the last question.

The Shaykh: Yes.
Shuqara: Remind me of his question, which is...

The Shaykh: What was his question?
Shuqara: There is what is known in legal rulings as the permissible (mubah). Why is it called permissible, and why is there no command or prohibition regarding it? So remind me of what you said just now, with some of what came to my mind to say, which is that the divine legal addresses are either by command or by prohibition. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Indeed, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) remained silent about certain things out of mercy for you, so do not ask about them. إن الله - عز وجل - سكت عن أشياء رحمة بكم فلا تسألوا عنها
. Therefore, what Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) remained silent about is what takes the ruling of the permissible. That is, Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) made it neither this nor that. So you do it, and you do not ask about the cause of leaving it, without Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) addressing you with it. This is first. Second, in this hadith, which is
Indeed, Allah (Mighty and Majestic) remained silent about certain things out of mercy for you, so do not ask about them. إن الله - عز وجل - سكت عن أشياء رحمة بكم فلا تسألوا عنها
, there is also an address by prohibition. When the prohibition comes regarding something like this, it means that it is also a prohibition against inquiring about the permissible, so that a person does not place himself in difficulty. For this reason, the permissible ruling, which the scholars made the fifth category of legal rulings, is as it is, and Allah knows best.
