The ruling on prayer and fasting for a woman when her monthly period exceeds its usual duration

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The question: She also says: If the monthly period comes and its duration increases beyond the usual amount each month, like bleeding, is it permissible for the woman to pray and fast, or not?
The answer: If the period increases, the correct view is that she follows the period. If her period is five days and it becomes six, seven, or eight, the correct view is that she sits (abstains from prayer) as long as the blood continues. She counts it as part of the period, counts it as part of the period, and does not pray, does not fast, and it is not permissible for her husband to approach her in this state. This is because the period increases and decreases; this is the custom of women, it increases and decreases. So if the blood increases, she sits and does not pray and does not fast. And if it decreases and she sees purity, she takes a bath and becomes lawful for her husband, and she prays and fasts. This is the correct view in this issue.
As for if she becomes pure and takes a bath from her menstruation, then sees yellowish or brownish discharge, then this yellowish or brownish discharge is not counted as anything and is not considered as anything. Rather, she prays with it and fasts, as Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
After we were pure, we did not consider the yellow or muddy discharge to be anythingكنا لا نعد الكدرة والصفرة بعد الطهر شيئاً
Bulugh al-Maram 143
. So if she takes a bath, for example, after her menstruation, then sees yellowish or brownish discharge, then this is not acted upon and does not prevent her from prayer, or from fasting, or from her husband. As for the bright, clear blood, she sits (abstains from prayer) for it, whether it is continuous or separated. Whether it is connected or separated, she sits (abstains from prayer) for it, following the custom. Yes.
