Question:
He says: I stopped my studies because of an illness that forced me to do so, but I did not stop memorizing the Qur'an and reading books of tafsir and hadith at home. This is because I live in an environment full of religious innovations, and I want to correct their creed to the best of my ability. Will I be rewarded for this effort? I am afraid of falling into the category of those who seek knowledge to be called a scholar. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There is nothing wrong with this; rather, you are rewarded if you strive to learn the Qur'an and beneficial knowledge through the Book and the Sunnah. You are on the right path to benefit people, guide them to good, and show them the right way. You are rewarded if you intend the Face of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and do not intend showing off or seeking fame. Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) says: [al-Bayyinah:5]. Therefore, sincerity to Allah is necessary. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bulugh al-Maram 16:48 So he was asked about it, and he said: .
A person learns, guides, and advises for the Face of Allah, not for showing off. If you intend the Face of Allah and the Hereafter in teaching them, guiding them, and advising them, then you are on a great good and have a great reward. However, if you intend showing off, this is not permissible. But you should be cautious and strive against your self so that in your teaching, you intend the Face of Allah, with no showing off or seeking fame.
Then you must ask the people of knowledge about what is difficult for you. You should ask the scholars of the Sunnah whom you know about what is difficult for you, and you should not be content with just reading, because you may miss some things or be ignorant of some things. So, along with reading, caring for, and reflecting on the Qur'an, you should attend the gatherings of knowledge with the people of knowledge and ask them about what is difficult for you, so that you benefit by adding to your knowledge, and so that you are clear in what you issue rulings on and what you teach. May Allah grant you success and guidance.
The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
