The Ruling on Zakah for Land Prepared for Use or Rental

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener from Jeddah, whose name is indicated by the letters (A. S. B), says in one of his questions: I bought a piece of land and fenced it with the intention of using it or renting it out. A lunar year passed over it without me using it or renting it out. Is zakah obligatory in this situation?

Answer:
There is no zakah on it, as long as you intend to use it or rent it out; for nothing is due on it, there is no zakah on it. However, if you rent it out, you pay zakah on the rent after a lunar year has passed over it. But as long as you have not rented it out, nothing is due on it. Zakah is only due... if you prepare it for sale, if you intend to prepare it for sale, and you want to sell it; then you pay zakah on it when a lunar year has passed over it. You pay zakah on its value according to the knowledge of experts, when a lunar year has passed over it. As for land prepared for use, or for residence, or for him to farm it, or for rental, there is no zakah on it. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
