Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The last question in the letter from the questioner, Salah 'Umar from Yemen, says: Who are the followers of the Sunnah and the Community? What are their characteristics? And when do we become among them? May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

Answer:
The people of the Sunnah and the community are those who act according to the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), hold fast to them, and call to them. They are the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence. These are the people of the Sunnah: the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) and those who were pleased with them, and whoever walked in their footsteps and followed their path in speech and action, and honored the Book and the Sunnah, argued with them, and relied upon them. This is the person of the Sunnah.
They are the People of the Sunnah who take the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) as their basis, rely upon them, and follow those who trod this path among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence. These are the People of the Sunnah and the Community: the Companions and those who followed their path, such as Malik, al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, al-Thawri, al-Awza'i, and those who followed them with excellence. These are the People of the Sunnah and the Community who affirmed the oneness of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) and believed that He is the sole one worthy of worship. They believed in His names and attributes and described Him with them (Exalted and Majestic is He) without distortion, likening Allah to creation, asking how an attribute is, or comparing Allah to creation. These are the People of the Sunnah and the Community who affirmed the oneness of Allah and stood firm upon His religion. They believed in Him and His attributes, singled Him out for worship, and believed that He is the Lord of the worlds and their Creator, and that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) possesses the most beautiful names and the highest attributes
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ
[al-Shura:11]. They opposed the Jahmiyyah, the Mu'tazilah, the Rafidah, and others from the people of innovation. These are the People of the Sunnah who followed the Companions and stood firm upon the path of the Companions in speech, action, and creed.
The creed of the Companions is the oneness of Allah, sincerity of worship to Him (Glorified and Exalted is He), following the commands of Allah, abandoning His prohibitions, standing by His limits, and believing in His names and attributes, describing Allah with them in the manner befitting Him (Glorified and Exalted is He). There is no distortion, denial of the divine attributes, asking how an attribute is, or likening Allah to creation in this; rather, they believe in them and pass them on as they came, acting upon His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ۝
[Al-Ikhlas 112:1]
Allah, the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, and there is none comparable to Him. [Surah al-Ikhlas: 1-4]. And upon His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ البَصِيرُ
[Surah al-Shura: 11], (Glorified and Exalted is He). Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
