How does one who is unable to stand, bow, or prostrate perform the prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return in this episode to the message from the listener: Sulayman ibn Ali Nazzal Abu Hudayb from Jordan, al-Mafraq. We presented his question in a previous episode, and in this episode he says: My mother is unable to stand, bow, or prostrate; she prays sitting down and performs those pillars by gesturing with her hand. What is the validity of her prayer?

Answer:
Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghabun: 16] And He, Glorified and Exalted is He, says:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacityلا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا
[al-Baqarah: 286] So if your mother cannot stand, she prays sitting. If she cannot sit, she prays on her side. If she cannot do that on her side, she prays lying on her back with her feet toward the qiblah. This is how the hadith came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when some of the Companions asked him about the prayer while he was ill. He said:
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your sideصل قائمًا، فإن لم تستطع فقاعدًا، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب، فإن لم تستطع فمستلقيًا
Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani)
This is the sunnah.
Likewise, if he intends to bow and prostrate, he does what he is able to do. He lowers his head slightly when bowing, and when prostrating, he lowers it even more than the bowing if he is able. If he is unable to do so at all, he intends the bowing and intends the prostration, and there is no need to lower the body:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghabun: 16]. When he recites, he intends the bowing and says: Allahu Akbar, Subhan Rabbi al-Azim, Subhan Rabbi al-Azim, while remaining in his state, sitting or standing. If he is unable to bend his head or his back at all, he recites the dhikr of the bowing: Subhan Rabbi al-Azim, Subhan Rabbi al-Azim, while remaining in his state. Then he says: Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbana wa bihamdika, Allahumma ighfir li. Then he says: Sami' Allahu li man hamidah if he is praying alone. If he is a ma'mum, he says: Rabbana wa laka al-hamd when his imam raises his head, while he remains in his state, sitting or standing, according to his ability.
Likewise in the prostration, he intends the prostration while sitting if he is unable to prostrate. He intends the prostration and lowers his head if he is able, and his back if he is able, to the extent he can. If he is unable to lower them, he says Allahu Akbar while remaining in his state, as in the bowing. He says: Allahu Akbar, intending the prostration. He intends this prostration and says: Subhan Rabbi al-A'la, Subhan Rabbi al-A'la. He supplicates in his prostration with whatever supplications are easy for him. Then he raises his head saying: Allahu Akbar, intending the raising, while remaining in his state: Allahu Akbar, intending the raising from the prostration. Then he says: Rabbighfir li, intending the sitting between the two prostrations. Rabbighfir li, Rabbighfir li, Allahumma ighfir li warhamni. Then he says Allahu Akbar, intending the second prostration, while remaining in his state. Subhan Rabbi al-A'la, Subhan Rabbi al-A'la, and so on. Then he says Allahu Akbar, intending the raising from the prostration. And so it is in his entire prayer:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[al-Taghabun: 16]. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
