Question:
He says: Please tell us about the eclipse prayer and how it is performed?
Answer:
The eclipse prayer, also called the solar or lunar eclipse prayer, was explained by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through his actions (peace and blessings be upon him). It is a confirmed recommended practice (sunnah) when the sun is eclipsed or the moon is eclipsed, whether the light is entirely or partially obscured. The sunnah is for Muslims to pray two units (rak'ahs), with two recitations, two bowings, and two prostrations in each unit. This is the most authentic report regarding this. Muslims may pray it at any time, even after the 'Asr prayer, according to the correct view. Whenever an eclipse occurs, even in a time when prayer is prohibited, the sunnah is to perform the eclipse prayer. It consists of two units containing two recitations, two bowings, and two prostrations in each unit.
When the sun was eclipsed during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), specifically when Ibrahim died, the sun was eclipsed. Some people said that it was eclipsed because of Ibrahim's death. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the people and said:As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 9:1 meaning: It was not because of Ibrahim's death or anyone else's .
In another hadith:Sahih al-Bukhari 1040, and in the other wording: Muwatta Malik 12:1. He ordered the freeing of slaves during the eclipse. He led the people in two units of prayer. He said Allahu Akbar (peace and blessings be upon him) and recited al-Fatihah, then recited a long recitation. Ibn Abbas said: It was estimated to be about the length of Surat al-Baqarah. Then he bowed and prolonged the bowing. Then he raised his head and recited a long recitation, shorter than the first. Then he bowed a long bowing, shorter than the first bowing. Then he raised his head and prolonged the recitation, less than the first prolongation. Then he prostrated two prostrations, prolonging them (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he stood up and recited, prolonging it, but less than the previous recitation. Then he bowed and prolonged it, but less than the previous two bowings. Then he raised his head and recited, but less than the previous recitation. Then he bowed a fourth bowing and prolonged it, but less than the bowing before it. Then he raised his head and prolonged it, but less than what came before. Then he prostrated two long prostrations (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he sat for the tashahhud, reciting the tahiyyat and testifying as one who follows the imam does. Then he said the taslim and addressed the people. He addressed the people and admonished them (peace and blessings be upon him), informing them that the sun and moon are two signs among the signs of Allah, and they do not eclipse for the death or life of any person. He said: Sahih al-Bukhari 1040. He ordered charity and the freeing of slaves (peace and blessings be upon him), and he ordered seeking forgiveness and the remembrance of Allah.
This is the sunnah until the sun and moon are revealed. The sunnah is to give a sermon after that, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. When the imam prays, he addresses the people and reminds them, explains to them the rulings of the eclipse prayer, warns them against sins and evils, and calls them to obey Allah and encourages them to give charity, free slaves, and increase in the remembrance of Allah and seeking forgiveness, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did.
He mentioned in the khutbah (sermon) after the eclipse prayer that Paradise and Hellfire were shown to him while he was praying. So when he saw Paradise, he moved forward, and the rows moved forward with him until he tried to take a bunch of grapes from it. He said:Sahih al-Bukhari 748. Then Hellfire was shown to him, peace and blessings be upon him, so he moved back, and the rows moved back with him. He said: in the fire is As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 65:178 the chief of the people of Makkah in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, Sahih al-Bukhari 4623 meaning that his intestines are being dragged in the fire. We seek refuge in Allah; because he was the first to release the free camels (for the idols) and to change the religion of Ibrahim (Abraham), meaning he released the free camels for the idols, meaning the camels, cows, and sheep were not to be ridden or milked for the idols. He was also the first to change the religion of Ibrahim in the worship of idols and calling upon them besides Allah. Therefore, his punishment became severe, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him having his intestines dragged in the fire. We ask Allah for well-being.
He said:. This indicates that it is not permissible to torture animals, whether a cat, a dog, a chicken, a pigeon, a camel, or a cow. They must not be tortured. Rather, one must either feed them and fulfill their rights, or sell them if one wishes to sell, or release them to eat from the earth of Allah. As for imprisoning them and not feeding or watering them, this is injustice and is not permissible, even if it is a cat or a dog; it is not permissible because it is injustice. If this is the case with a cat or a dog or the like, what about the one who imprisons a Muslim without right and wrongs him, or transgresses against him by killing or otherwise? His sin would be greater, his crime larger, and his punishment more severe. We ask Allah for safety.
He said:. In the pre-Islamic age of ignorance (jahiliyyah), some people used to steal from pilgrims. He had a staff with a bent head, like a hook. He would pass around the pilgrims and their luggage, dragging with his hook whatever he could. If they noticed him, he would say: "It got caught on my hook; I did not intend it." If they did not notice him, he would run away with the thing and take it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him being tortured in the Fire with the hook he used to steal from pilgrims, may Allah protect us.
This serves as a warning against theft, calling to shirk (associating partners with Allah), torturing animals, and other sins, for they are among the causes of punishment in the Fire. We ask Allah for safety. It is obligatory for the believer to be wary of wronging people, wronging animals, and taking wealth without right, whether by usurpation, theft, or betrayal. One must be wary of that. Yes.

إن الشمس والقمر آيتان من آيات الله، لا يكسفان لموت أحد من الناس ولا لحياتهRather, they are two signs among the signs of Allah, by which Allah frightens His servants. So when you see that, turn to the remembrance of Allah, to His supplication, and to seeking His forgiveness.
وإنما هما آيتان من آيات الله يخوف الله بهما عباده، فإذا رأيتم ذلك فافزعوا إلى ذكر الله وإلى دعائه واستغفارهIn another hadith:
So whenever you see these eclipses pray and invoke (Allah) till the eclipse is over.
فإذا رأيتم ذلك فصلوا وادعوا حتى يكشف ما بكمcall on Allah and say, "Allah is greater" and give sadaqa.
فادعوا الله وكبروا وتصدقواSo whenever you see these eclipses pray and invoke (Allah) till the eclipse is over.

عمرو بن لحي الخزاعيNarrated Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab: Bahira is a she-camel whose milk is kept for the idols and nobody is allowed to milk it; Sa'iba was the she-camel which they used to set free for their gods and nothing was allowed to be carried on it. Abu Huraira said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "I saw `Amr bin 'Amir Al-Khuza`i (in a dream) dragging his intestines in the Fire, and he was the first person to establish the tradition of setting free the animals (for the sake of their deities)," Wasila is the she-camel which gives birth to a she-camel as its first delivery, and then gives birth to another she-camel as its second delivery. People (in the Pre-lslamic periods of ignorance) used to let that she camel loose for their idols if it gave birth to two she-camels successively without giving birth to a male camel in between. 'Ham' was the male camel which was used for copulation. When it had finished the number of copulations assigned for it, they would let it loose for their idols and excuse it from burdens so that nothing would be carried on it, and they called it the 'Hami.' Abu Huraira said, "I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying so."
