Explanation of the words of Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): "And the preceding of what it acts upon is avoided *** And its being of a causal nature is obligatory."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"And the preceding of what it acts upon is avoided"
The meaning of "avoided" is: it is prohibited and not permissible. For example, it is not permissible to say: "The face of the handsome one" or "Came the face of the handsome one." This is not permissible, even if it were in the accusative case, saying "The face of the handsome one," because of its weakness. This is unlike the active participle, for which it is permissible to place its object before it. You may say: "I will strike Zayd tomorrow," and this is permissible, but this [the adjective of resemblance] is not permissible.
"And the preceding of what it acts upon is avoided"
Second: "And its being of a causal nature is obligatory"
That it acts upon something of a causal nature means: it is not a pronoun referring back to its possessor, but it must be of a causal nature. Yes, and the causal nature is that it be an explicit noun, so it does not act upon a pronoun. If you said: "Came the handsome one," it would not have the ruling of the adjective of resemblance that we are discussing. You must say: "The handsome face" and the like.
