Explanation of the words of Ibn Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): "For its attached and original alif, what *** belongs to it and to the original alif is a qalb that is preferred."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said:
"For its attached and original alif, what *** belongs to it"
"For its alif" means: the alif of the feminine marker, the attached one that attaches to it, which attaches to the alif of the feminine marker. It contains an alif that they call the alif of attachment, which is neither the alif of the feminine marker nor the original alif. For example?
The student: 'Alba.

The Shaykh : Huh?
The student: 'Alba.

The Shaykh : No, this is elongated, 'Alqa. As for 'Alba, it is elongated, 'Alqa. They say the alif in it is for attachment. So the alif of attachment, they say, is given the ruling of the alif of the feminine marker. Therefore he said:
"What *** belongs to it and to the original alif is a qalb that is preferred"
He means: the original alif, which is the fourth letter or more in a word whose second letter is sakin. In this case, both options are permissible, as mentioned previously. However, the qalb in the original alif is preferred. The meaning of "preferred" (yu'tama) is: it is chosen. The examples will be in the explanation. The author has now informed us that the short alif (alif maqsura) is of three types: for the feminine marker, for attachment, and what else? And original. Feminine marker, attachment, and original. What is the default ruling for the feminine marker? Deletion. And in what is the fourth letter in a word whose second letter is sakin, two options are permissible: deletion and qalb. The alif of attachment has the same ruling as the alif of the feminine marker; it is deleted unless it is the fourth letter in a word whose second letter is sakin, in which case? Both options are permissible. For the original alif, we say what we say about the alif of the feminine marker, except that the author says: the qalb, changing it to a waw, the original one is what is preferred and is more appropriate.
