Matters in which a Muslim is excused due to ignorance

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
When is a person excused due to ignorance, if you would be so kind?
Answer: A person is excused regarding obscure matters, especially in some of the rulings of Islamic sacred law, which may remain hidden from a layperson until he learns them. As for what is evident among Muslims, if a man were to say, "I do not know about unlawful sexual intercourse," he is not excused, for he is among Muslims. Unlawful sexual intercourse is known among Muslims to be forbidden. So if he were to say, "I did not know that unlawful sexual intercourse is forbidden," he is not excused by that. Or if he were to say, "I did not know that intoxicants are forbidden," while he is among Muslims, he is not excused. However, in some issues that may be obscure, in matters of precise rulings, a person may be excused in them because he is not one of the people of knowledge.
Likewise, if he were to say, "I did not know that supplicating to the dead and calling for aid from the dead is prohibited," he is not excused by that, because this is the foundation of the oneness of Allah and the foundation of the religion. Allah revealed the Qur'an to prohibit these matters and to put an end to them, and He made clear the state of the polytheists and warned against their deeds. Yes.
