What is the ruling on the prayer of need?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on the prayer of need, O Shaykh?

Answer:
As for the prayer of need, nothing has come regarding it. The prayer of istikharah and the prayer of repentance are what we know. If a person wants to repent from a sin, he purifies himself and prays two rak'ahs, then asks his Lord to accept his repentance and forgive him. There is nothing wrong with this.
It came in an authentic hadith from al-Siddiq Abu Bakr from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
If one of you commits a sin, then purifies himself and prays two rak'ahs, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, Allah will accept his repentance.إذا أذنب أحدكم ثم تطهر وصلى ركعتين ثم استغفر الله، تاب الله عليه
And prayer is not a condition for repentance. If a person repents, feels remorse, and abandons the sin, Allah will accept his repentance if he is sincere in that. And if he prays two rak'ahs and repents after that, this is an increase in good, in the category of the causes of the validity and perfection of repentance.
