Is it permissible to kiss the Qur'an?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to kiss the Qur'an, O honorable Shaykh?

Answer:
There is no blame in doing so, but leaving it is better; because there is no evidence for it. And if he kisses it, there is nothing wrong with it. It is narrated from 'Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to kiss it and say, "This is the speech of my Lord." But this is not preserved from any other of the Companions, nor from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And there is also a consideration regarding the authenticity of its narration from him; there is a consideration regarding its correctness. But if he kisses it out of reverence and love, there is nothing wrong with it, but leaving it is more preferable.
