Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a letter we received from Jordan from the questioner, Jahad Dhib. He says: What does Your Eminence, the Shaykh, advise a student of knowledge to start with? Does he start— he says —in the first, second, and third stages with the texts of fiqh and usul al-fiqh, mustalah al-hadith, fiqh al-hadith, 'aqidah, nahw, and tafsir? With what does a student of knowledge begin at this stage?
Answer:
He begins with the Qur'an. He strives with the Qur'an and begins with that, then the books of 'aqidah, such as: al-'Aqidah al-Wasitiyyah, he memorizes it; the book of Tawhid by the Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab, such as Kashf al-Shubuhat, and al-Usul al-Thalathah. He memorizes these concise books on 'aqidah.
Then the books of hadith; such as Bulugh al-Maram, 'Umdat al-Hadith, the Nawawi Forty, and its completion by Ibn Rajab; these are good books, then fiqh. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you and bless you. As for nahw and tafsir, what does he say, O honorable Shaykh?
The Shaykh: ... with usul al-fiqh, mustalah al-hadith, and nahw, all of this is good, but after giving attention to the Qur'an and giving attention to the books of 'aqidah and the books of hadith. As for mustalah al-hadith, he reads mustalah al-hadith along with the hadith, and usul al-fiqh along with fiqh, and likewise he learns nahw; because it helps him in seeking knowledge.
