What is the ruling on playing chess, al-Dumna, and the like?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I hope you will clarify for us the ruling on playing chess, such that the one who plays it does not miss the prayer in congregation, and likewise Kerem and al-Dumna. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
This is forbidden according to everyone, according to all scholars, if it involves money, if there is money in it.
The second case: if it is without money, the majority are also of the opinion that it is forbidden, as Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned in "al-Farasiyyah" and elsewhere. He said: The majority are of the opinion that it is forbidden; because of the competition in it and the turning away from the path of Allah, and it does the action of chess which involves money... Dice intoxicate the minds like the intoxication of wine, it intoxicates them and causes their evil, for this reason the majority went to the prohibition of it.
And some of the scholars went to the opinion that it is not forbidden except if it turns away from the remembrance of Allah, and from the prayer, if there is money in it.
And so is the other play: al-Dumna or others, if it is with the known images, it has images... it is forbidden; because of the turning away from the remembrance of Allah and from the prayer and the competition, even if it is without money, and if there is money in it, it is forbidden by consensus, but if they are cards, there are no images in them, and there is nothing in them that turns away from the remembrance of Allah, and there is nothing in them that occupies from the good, and there is no exposure of private parts, then we do not know anything about them.
