Question:
Our brother asks Your Eminence, saying: Tell us about the scriptural evidence for the obligation of the niqab?
Answer:
The greatest and clearest evidence is the saying of Allah the Exalted in His Noble Book: [Al-Ahzab:53], and His saying (peace and blessings be upon him): [Al-Nur:60]. If the elderly women—and they are those who have passed the age of childbearing and do not hope for marriage—are required to wear the hijab if they hope for marriage, or if they are required to adorn themselves and it is not permissible for them to expose themselves except when they are elderly women who have passed the age of childbearing, do not hope for marriage, and are not displaying their adornment; then it is known from this that those who are not elderly women are obligated to cover themselves and wear the hijab, whether they are displaying their adornment or not. It is obligatory for them to cover themselves and not display beautiful, enticing clothing, and not expose the face, chest, leg, hand, or anything else; because this is displaying one's adornment. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: [Al-Ahzab:33]. The scholars said: The meaning of displaying one's adornment is: exposing the beauties and charms from the head, face, or the like. Yes.

Our brother asks Your Eminence, saying: Tell us about the scriptural evidence for the obligation of the niqab?
Answer:
The greatest and clearest evidence is the saying of Allah the Exalted in His Noble Book:
And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts.
And women of post-menstrual age who have no desire for marriage - there is no blame upon them for putting aside their outer garments [but] not displaying adornment
وَالْقَوَاعِدُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ اللَّاتِي لا يَرْجُونَ نِكَاحًا فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَاتٍ بِزِينَةٍand do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance
وَلا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّجَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الأُولَىThe presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
