The Ruling on One Who Says That Religion Is Exclusive to the Mosque

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is religion limited to specific rituals, or does it encompass all aspects of life? What is the ruling on one who says: that religion is exclusive to the mosque, or that it does not extend to transactions, politics, and the like?

Answer:
Religion is comprehensive; it covers the mosque, the home, and the shop. It covers travel and residence, the car and the camel, and everything:
O you who have believed, enter into Islam completelyيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ادْخُلُوا فِي السِّلْمِ كَافَّةً
[al-Baqarah:208], meaning: in all of Islam. So the servant must fear Allah in everything, and submit his face to Allah in everything, not only in the mosque, but in the mosque, in the home, with his family, with his guests, with his neighbors, and in the markets with his brothers in the place of buying and selling. He must sell as Allah has prescribed, and he must beware of riba, and he must beware of lying, and he must beware of betrayal, and he must beware of deception, and so on in all his circumstances.
Religion is comprehensive in everything, and it is with you in every place: in your home, in your shop, in your travel, in your residence, in hardship, in ease. You must adhere to religion, not only in the mosque. This is what the misguided say; it is what the secularists say, the callers to misguidance and atheism.
Religion is with you in everything, so you must adhere to the religion of Allah in everything, and be upright upon the religion of Allah in everything. The Muslim adheres to the religion of Allah and is upright upon the command of Allah in all his affairs. It is not limited to the home, nor to the mosque, nor to travel, nor to residence, but in all things you must obey Allah and perform His obligatory acts, and refrain from His prohibitions, and stand by His limits wherever you are: in your home, or in the air, or in the sea, or in the market, or in any place.
