Ruling on exchanging gold for gold with payment of the difference

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on someone who exchanges worn gold for new gold and pays the difference?

Answer:
This is not permissible; one must buy the new gold separately, and then sell the old or inferior gold separately, just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding dates when Bilal said to him: "We bought a sa' of good dates for two sa' of inferior dates." He said: "Oh, oh, this is the very riba (usury or interest). Do not do it, but sell for dirhams, then buy new dates with the dirhams."
So it is with the owner of inferior gold and good gold; he sells the inferior gold first to take the price, and then buys new gold with it. Or does he sell this for that with an increase? No, because gold is being exchanged for less gold. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Gold for gold, like for like, equal for equal, weight for weightالذهب بالذهب مثلًا بمثل، سواء بسواء، وزنًا بوزن
