The Equivalence of Sea and Land in the Rulings on Shortening Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The following message is from one of our brother listeners. He says: I am a man who works in the naval forces in Jeddah, Zafir Hussein al-Shahri from Jeddah. I ask and say: We are sailors who set out from the port to the sea for three or four days. Is it permissible for us to shorten the prayers and combine them, knowing that our departure does not take us far from the city, but only for certain tasks? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good?
Answer: The passenger on a ship, or on other types of sea vessels, is like the passenger in a car on land, or in a train on land. If the distance is the distance of travel for shortening and combining, then yes; otherwise, no. If the ship stays around the port and along the coast, not going far, ten kilometers, twenty kilometers, or the like, then one does not shorten, and it does not have the ruling of travel.
However, if it goes far, to what is called travel, such as seventy kilometers, eighty kilometers, one hundred kilometers, or more, this is travel for its people to shorten, and for its people to break the fast and combine. Combining the two prayers; because they are travelers, like the one who goes out to the wilderness for a picnic or the like, eighty kilometers, seventy kilometers, ninety kilometers, one hundred kilometers, seventy kilometers approximately, a day and a night for the mount previously. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
