Ruling on Teaching in Co-educational Schools

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We have been afflicted in our country with co-educational schools for boys and girls. I am a religious young man, praise be to Allah, and I was appointed as a teacher in one of these co-educational schools, as there are no schools for boys only in our country. However, there is a school far from my town that requires strenuous effort throughout the day and high expenses, and my salary is small and meager. So, should I remain in the co-educational school, or should I request a transfer to the other school, even if I have to pay money to the authorities?

Answer:
Look at what is best for your heart. If you fear for yourself, then transfer away from it. But if you see that your presence brings benefit to the school, and you encourage them to obey Allah, and you encourage the girls to cover themselves, and you lower your gaze, and you do what benefits the Muslim community, then do so.
Do what is best. If you fear for yourself because of the presence of the girls, then fear Allah, be cautious, and transfer from this school to other schools, or to another job. But if you see that your presence in the school is in the interest of the Muslims and beneficial to the Muslims, and you are able to lower your gaze, and to command them to observe hijab and cover themselves, and to strive with your remaining brothers in this matter, then you are on a great frontier of the frontiers of Islam. So, fear Allah in that, and do what you can of good. Otherwise, transfer.
