The ruling on one who enjoins good and forbids evil while having shortcomings

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a person feels that he has a deficiency in his religion, should he enjoin good while he is shortcoming? Sometimes he fears showing off (riya') and does not have the knowledge to convey it, so should he enjoin good?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
There is no doubt that Satan greatly desires to discourage people from what Allah has made obligatory upon them, namely enjoining good and forbidding evil, through various types of doubts and interpretations. Sometimes he comes to him from the angle that you have shortcomings and are not perfect, so how can you enjoin and forbid! And sometimes he comes to him and says to him: I fear that you are showing off (riya') with this command. All of this is from the schemes of Satan. It is not a condition for the one who enjoins and forbids that he be perfect; rather, he must enjoin the good that he knows and forbid the evil, even if he has a deficiency, even if he has some sins.
But he must strive against his self, and he must fear Allah and strive to complete what Allah has made obligatory and leave what Allah has forbidden. However, this does not prevent him from enjoining and forbidding with insight. He does not enjoin except with insight, with knowledge, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Say, “This is my path; I call to Allah with insight,قُلْ هَذِهِ سَبِيلِي أَدْعُو إِلَى اللَّهِ عَلَى بَصِيرَةٍ
[Yusuf: 108]. So if he sees in his house, or among his brothers, someone who is lazy about prayer, this is a clear matter that does not require much knowledge. Prayer is known by everyone. So he must enjoin good upon him and say: O my brother, fear Allah, pray with the Muslims, preserve it, using good methods and warning him of the punishment of Allah and of the sickness of his heart.
The greatest of punishments is that the heart is afflicted with death, we seek refuge in Allah. The greatest of punishments is that the heart of the disobedient one is afflicted with death, so he does not recognize good nor deny evil, and he does not care about good. And he may be afflicted with severe, serious illness.
So you, O my brother, you must enjoin and forbid even if you have some shortcomings. And do not say, "I fear showing off (riya')." No, enjoin good, forbid evil, teach good, call to good, ask your Lord for well-being, strive in sincerity for Allah, and fight against the thoughts of showing off (riya') that may occur. Fight against that, resolve, and be firm in sincerity for Allah, and be glad with good.
