A brief overview of al-Bukhari's *Al-Adab al-Mufrad*, and the Shaykh's explanation of his work on this book.

The Shaykh: And, incidentally, this is from the portion of my new book that I will complete soon, if Allah wills: "Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad" by al-Bukhari. As you know, al-Bukhari has his *Sahih*, which he originally titled "The Comprehensive Authentic Musnad of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Among his books are, for example, the Book of Faith, the Book of Knowledge, the Book of Messengers, the Book of Menstruation, the Book of Prayer, and so on. There are ninety-seven books in total in *Sahih al-Bukhari*. The first is the Book of Faith, and the last is the Book of Tawhid (the oneness of Allah). Between these are many books, and between the Book of Tawhid and about ten other books is the Book of Adab. In it, he committed to what is authentic from the Messenger (peace be upon him) within the bounds of his precise scholarly conditions. He compiled a separate book from the *Sahih* and named it the Book of "Al-Adab al-Mufrad." He used the distinctive phrase "Al-Adab al-Mufrad" for this book, which stands alone and has no relation to the Book of Adab, which is one of those ninety-seven books. It contains hadiths and athar (reports) from the Companions and those below them, such as the Tabi'un (the generation after the Companions) and others. The hadiths are more numerous than the athar. Among these hadiths are authentic ones, good ones, and weak ones. Therefore, from my old project, which I used to call "Approximating the Sunnah for the Ummah," I turned to this work about ten years before my arrival in Oman, I believe. Now, I am almost at its end. Dividing *Al-Adab al-Mufrad* into two books, as is our custom with the Sunan.
