Question:
May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. This questioner says that some people claim that seeking nearness to Allah through the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a matter of scholarly disagreement. Is this statement correct?

Answer:
The criterion is not the disagreement itself; disagreement is a reality and it is frequent. The criterion is the evidence. The criterion belongs to the one among the disputants who has the evidence. Disagreement does not justify a person doing whatever he wants. It is obligatory to follow the evidence. If one of the disputants has the evidence, he is the one who is right.
