Question:
We begin, O Shaykh, with the interpretation of the verse in Surat Maryam, in the saying of the Truth—Blessed and Exalted is He—I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan: (And Allah increases in guidance those who are already guided, and the deeds that remain good are best in reward with your Lord and best in return)?

Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. Their aim should not be showing off, seeking fame, loving to appear, or seeking the worldly life. This applies to religious knowledge. As for worldly knowledge, knowledge of crafts, engineering, and the like, that is sought for the worldly life and for the sake of the worldly life. But religious knowledge is that which is sought for the Face of
