Purchasing a Slaughtered Sacrificial Animal

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 13766 )
Q: Is it permissible for a person to buy a sheep from the flock that has been slaughtered and skinned, and make it his sacrificial animal for the festival ? This happened after he went to the market and could not find any sheep to buy, so he was forced to buy a slaughtered and skinned sheep. Does this suffice for the sacrifice or not?
A: The sacrificial animal does not suffice if it is purchased already slaughtered and skinned; because the intention was not formed at the time of slaughter that it is a sacrifice for the person for whom or on whose behalf it was intended. It is, therefore,
a sheep for meat and not a sacrificial animal, and the one who sacrificed a sheep for meat must purchase a replacement during the remaining four days of slaughter, which are the day of 'Id al-Adha and the three days following it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
