The ruling on seeking nearness to Allah through other than Allah the Exalted

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q37: The questioner asks: What is the ruling on seeking nearness to Allah the Mighty and Majestic through other than Him?
A37: One does not seek nearness to Allah the Exalted and Majestic through Him; rather, He is called upon and asked of directly, Glorified and Exalted is He. As for seeking nearness to Allah through righteous deeds, or seeking nearness to Allah through His names and attributes, as He the Exalted said:
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
[Al-A'raf 7:180]
this is prescribed. As for seeking nearness through persons, such as seeking nearness through the Prophet, or through the righteous, or through other created beings, this is not permissible; because it is a religious innovation and a means to associating partners with Allah.
