The third question of Fatwa No. ( 21030 )
Q3: Is the ignorant person or the commoner not held accountable for what they do not know, or is seeking knowledge obligatory for them?
A3: It is not permissible for the ignorant person to remain in his ignorance; rather, it is obligatory for him to learn what he must learn of the matters of his religion that he cannot afford to be ignorant of, and to ask the scholars. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nahl 16:43] , if he
remains in his ignorance while he finds someone to ask who will teach him the truth, then he is sinful. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
