The questioner : What is our obligation toward the noble Companions?
The Shaykh : Our obligation is to love them, respect them, defend their honor, and remain silent regarding the fighting that occurred among them. We must also accuse those who insult them of hypocrisy, for no one dares to insult the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) except one who is immersed in hypocrisy, may Allah protect us from that. Otherwise, how could one insult the Companions when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih al-Bukhari 3651. And he said: .
Moreover, insulting the Companions is a defect in the Companions, a defect in the Shari'ah, a defect in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and a defect in the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic):
As for it being a defect in the Companions, that is clear. As for it being a defect in the Shari'ah, it is because the ones who transmitted the Shari'ah to us are the Companions. If the transmitters of the Shari'ah are as those who insult them describe them, then people will have no trust in the Shari'ah of Allah. For some of them, may Allah protect us from that, describe them as being in open sinfulness, disbelief, and open sinfulness, and they do not care to insult the most noble of the Companions: Abu Bakr and 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
As for it being a defect in the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), it is because a companion is judged according to the state of his companion regarding his consideration and the estimation of his worth. Therefore, you find that when people see this person as a companion of an open sinner, his consideration is diminished in their eyes. And in the famous wisdom, and indeed in the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:Al-Mustadrak lil-Hakim 33:79. And in the famous rhymed wisdom:
"Do not ask about a man, but ask about his companion, for every companion follows the one he associates with".
As for it being an attack on the wisdom of Allah, is it wise for Allah to choose for His noblest creation, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), these companions who are in open sinfulness, disbelievers, and open sinners?
By Allah, it is not wise.
