The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 5401 ):
Q1: Is it permissible to mention the name of any Companion and say: peace be upon him, instead of saying: may Allah be pleased with him?
A1: It is permissible to mention a Companion or anyone else and say: peace and blessings be upon him. Imam al-Bukhari included in his book [Sahih] a chapter titled: "Is it permissible to send blessings upon anyone other than the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" And Allah the Exalted said:
And pray for them; indeed, your prayer is tranquility for themوَصَلِّ عَلَيْهِمْ إِنَّ صَلاتَكَ سَكَنٌ لَهُمْ
. It was narrated to us by Sulayman ibn Harb , who was narrated to us by Shu'bah from 'Amr ibn Murrah from Ibn Abi Awfa who said:
When a man would bring his charity to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say: "May Allah send blessings upon him." So my father brought his charity to him, and he said: "May Allah send blessings upon the family of Abu Awfa."كان إذا أتى رجل النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بصدقته قال: اللهم صل عليه، فأتاه أبي بصدقته فقال: اللهم صل على آل أبي أوفى
, but it should not be adopted as a title for some people, nor
used with the Companions or others as a permanent practice. However, if one does so with some people because they offered their charity or for other reasons such as knowledge and virtue, without making it a continuous habit, that is acceptable. The better practice is to say: may Allah be pleased with him, when mentioning the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). And success is from Allah. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
