Naming the Shop Yathrib Dates

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I named a commercial establishment "Yathrib Dates" and some students of knowledge objected to this name, and I was not aware of the prohibition in it. One of them advised me to seek a fatwa regarding this name so that I would be clear about my matter.
A: After the Committee studied the question, it responded that it sees the shop's name should be changed from Tamur Yathrib to another permissible name. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
They (the people) call it Yathrib; its correct name is (in fact) Medina.يقولون يثرب وهي المدينة
Sahih Muslim 1382a
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. Also, the name Yathrib is not good, because it is derived from tathrib, which means blame and reprimand, and because it
deception and fraud upon the people in that; for they believe that this date is from al-Madinah , and it may be from elsewhere.
