The first question of Fatwa number ( 18513 )
Q 1: When the obligatory prayer is established and the Muslim is praying two rak'ahs
for example, the greeting of the mosque, and he is in his first rak'ah, does he leave the prayer directly, or does he leave by saying the taslim to the right and left?
A 1: There is a detailed ruling on this: If the prayer is established while he is in the beginning of the voluntary prayer or in the middle of it, it is obligatory for him to cut it off without saying the taslim, according to the more correct of the two opinions of the scholars; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 421Sahih (Darussalam) , narrated by Muslim in (his Sahih). And if the prayer is established while he is in the bowing of the last rak'ah or after it, it is better for him to complete it; because that does not take up a time that would cause him to miss entering the prayer. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
