Raising the index finger in the tashahhud

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 18679 )
Q 3: It is established that the gesture of raising the index finger is part of the tashahhud: 1- When is the finger next to the thumb raised and when is it lowered? 2- When does its movement begin and until when is it moved?
A 3: Raising the index finger in the tashahhud is a recommended practice (sunnah), and its wisdom is to point to the oneness of Allah. Whoever wishes may move it, and whoever wishes may not move it. This matter does not necessitate division and discord among students of knowledge. So if one does not raise it at all, or raises it but does not move it, the matter is easy and does not necessitate disapproval or aversion. However, the recommended practice (sunnah) is to raise it in both tashahhuds until the worshipper says the closing salam, as a sign of the oneness of Allah. As for the movement, it is done during the supplication, as the authentic Sunnah has established this.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
